In the 1400s, physicians were generally not interested in surgery. They even preferred medication, even when surgical treatment was necessary. There was not enough technical opportunity at that time and the treatment methods were technologically very primitive.

The surgical intervention was difficult and the danger to the patient was very high. That is why physicians were careful not to perform surgical intervention in general.
